Description
I did a double take gawking at this large hawk thinking at first it was a Northern Harrier or Marsh Hawk. They share the same nesting and hunting territory but differ considerably in size yet the Ferruginous is not common. The lower legs on this bird make it look more like a Marsh (aka Duck) Hawk making me think at first it was a large female, but the black beak with pronounced yellow cere along with its sheer size made me dispel that thought. This was a large powerful bird despite its immature appearance.
