This picture commemorates the return of the California Condor to the Grand Canyon.
The California Condor is largest flying bird in North America. Native Americans revere them calling them Thunderbirds, because of the sound their wings make. Condor #73 was hatched under the supervision of San Diego & Los Angeles Zoo breeding and wild life project. The California Condor in the 1800s range extended from Canada to Mexico. When their numbers diminished to the point of near extinction in the 1980s exhaustive efforts were conducted by numerous agencies nationwide to save this special and important species of the Carrion Family. After establishing a breeding program through a number of national agencies wild condors were captured, their eggs incubated and reared in captivity at the San Diego and Los Angeles Zoos the offspring were released. I am semi retired at this time .My Dad gave me my first camera, a brownie, at the age of 7 in 1953 after applying my talents with crayons on the walls of my hallway and creating fantastic sculptures in a sand box starting at the age of 3 as I recall. I loved life as an artist, but teachers disagreed to my chagrin. So I ended up spending much of my life as an engineer in different trades and practices.
