Like many birds in the Owens aviary this Asian visitor may have been raised by hand.
Wikipedia suggests;
The black-collared starling (Gracupica nigricollis) is a species of starling in the family Sturnidae. It is found in Brunei, Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam. Its natural habitatis subtropical or tropical dry forests.
In Thailand the collared starling is sometimes kept in captivity and taught to speak.
