Description
Displayed here in their natural environment these beautiful little flowers proliferate in an old wood forest. We enjoy visiting them at their home on a lake island near a summer cottage on the central Maine coast in late May. While a few flowers blossom before them the Pink Lady is an early bloomer in the north woods.
A member of the orchid family, these flowers develop a deep pink purple flower when in bloom. They are endangered in many areas and appear to require shady forest, a deeply composted pine, and oak forest floor rich in acidic soil to develop in the wild. The plant contains two leaves and a single flower stalk growing from the center.
