Description
Presented on a painterly back round these young bull elk are just coming of breeding age this year. All are five or six years of age based on the size of their velvet antlers. In midsummer , on the first of August, they are enjoying a quiet day together grazing on the meadow. Four weeks from now they will begin the rut and their peaceful attitude will give way to their desire for challenge and dominance shedding their velvet. They will call one another challenge not only one another but older and larger herd leaders to perpetuate their species.
